Recursos de agua del mundo

Bolivia has water: rivers, Lakes, ground water and others resources. But a day, Potosi, my hometown ( see WEB about Salar  of Uyuni-http://www.huffingtonpost.com/news/salar-de-uyuni) was dry, only had 183 mm of annual rainfall; but is much more that Israel and the region have.
Therefore we admire the effort of your engineers to get treatment and good use of water.
Thank you very much,  for send me documentation on optimizacion of handling of resources of water.

Biography, in brief:
“ My main focus is on planning, design and operation of water resources systems, using  OR methodologies of modeling, simulation, optimization and decision-making. Water resources systems contain both natural and man-made components, so the studies include: hydrology of surface and ground water; water supply and distribution systems; urban water resources, water sensitive urban and watershed planning, regional and national water systems, water policy and strategy. I conduct practice-oriented research with graduate students and colleagues in academia, in consulting firms, and in local, ragional and national  agencies, combined with long-term consulting – thereby bridging between theory and practice, in both directions.
“For 45 years I taught at the Technion and at some notable universities in North America courses on water resources management, systems analysis and optimization, surface and groundwater hydrology, fluid mechanics and hydraulics, and have been repeatedly cited as Outstanding Teacher.
“Since 1966 I have consulted to local, municipal, regional and national water authorities and companies in several countries, and to international agencies. For 25 years I was consultant to Mekorot Water Company, and since 1992 I am consultant to the Israel

Water Authority, and am member of the Israeli team dealing and negotiating with our neighbors on water.
“Since the 1970s I served the international scientific community, as President of the International Association of Hydrological Sciences (IAHS, 1991-1995), Vice President (1995-1999 and 1999-2003) and President (2003-2007) of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG), Member of the Executive Board of the International, Council of Science (ICSU, 2005-2008 and 2008-2011).
“I was the Founding Director (1991-2003) of the Stephen and Nancy Grand Water Research Institute, the GWRI, at the technion, which operates as the national water reseatch institute. It houses the Blumenstein Information Center, which assembles, organizes and makes openly available to all information on water in Israel and the Middle East, and provides links to international water information sources.
“In 2013 I received the Life-Time Achievement Award from the Israeli Water Association. The citation reads (translated from Hebrew) “Professor Uri Shamir : In gratitude and appreciation for life-long achievements in the domain of water, for scientific and engineering achievements, for professional leadership, for the ability to combine research and teaching to address urgent issues facing the water sector, for your contribution in educationg generations of top ranking professionals of the Israeli water sector, for your contribution of the content and formulation of Israel’s water agreements with its neighbors, for respectable representation of Israel in the international water community by consultation to international entities like the World Bank and UNESCO and by leadership of international scientific organizations, for involvement in and influence on management of the Israeli water sector, and for contributing to the Water Sector Master Plan and its approval”.  Signed by the Israeli Water Association, 24 April 2013”

“Uri Shamir is Professor Emeritus in the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and Founding Director (1992-2003) of the Stephen and Nancy Grand Water Research Institute at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. Prof. Shamir holds a BSc (1962) from the Technion and a PhD (1966) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He teaches, conducts research and consults in Israel and around the world on hydrology and water resources management. Since 1992 Prof. Shamir has been a consultant to the Israeli Water and Sewage Authority (IWA) on matters of planning and policy, and previously (1967-92) was consultant to Mekorot, the National Water Supply Company.

BIOPELICULA  (biofilm) 

La formación de la biopelícula en acueductos y alcantarillados afecta el flujo.

El crecimiento de esta placa adherida a las paredes del conducto se debe a la Biomasa con la acción de varios tipos de bacterias.

Se ha investigado al respecto , y son propuestas varias operaciones unitarias para disminuir o deprimir el crecimiento de la biopelícula.

El efecto de la modificación de la rugosidad interna de los conductos está siendo evaluado por varios investigadores,

 Abstract: The hydraulic performance of pipelines can be significantly affected by the presence of biological growth on internal surfaces.
The change in wall roughness brought about by the biofilms has been studied by the use of headloss tests, precleaning and postcleaning
of the pipelines in three Tasmanian hydroelectric schemes. Results of the headloss testing show that improvements to hydraulic efficiency
can be achieved from the cleaning of biofouling material. The data, when plotted as a Moody diagram, shows that the friction law for
conduits roughened by biological growths may not always follow a Colebrook-White type relationship, although the results are too narrow
in Reynolds number to be conclusive. It was found that bacteria made up the majority of the biofilm biomass in the pipelines studied.
Based on molecular analysis, members of the class Alphaproteobacteria were the most frequently detected followed by members of the
phylum Chloroflexi.

La Población de la CIUDAD de Potosí podría estar entre el rango de 164.000 - 176.000 personas.
El valor probable es 173.000 personas.

Debe diferenciarse la CIUDAD DE POTOSI  y EL MUNICIPIO POTOSI.

En 2001 la población de la Ciudad fue 132.966 personas;  en tanto que
la población del Municipio era  145.057 personas.

Las estimaciones de este blog se refieren exclusivamente a la CIUDAD.

Restaurante giratorio más alto del mundo

Vista nocturna del restaurante giratorio ( 30 m de diámetro, capacidad para 100 personas) más alto del mundo. Accionado por un sistema motorizado,  360 º de vista panorámica de la ciudad con mayor elevación del mundo : 4000 metros sobre el nivel del mar .  Torre tiene 10 pisos, situada en la cúspide de la montaña  Pari Orcko.

  Torre al fondo  y  primer plano  puente en al Avenida Tinkuy .

BLACKTHORN - La excelente pelìcula de Mateo Gil con Sam Shepard

Esta es la esquina de la Plaza "10 de Noviembre" de Potosí, Bolivia que aparece en la película.

Esquina Calle Tarija  y Calle Linares, hacia el sur (Hrs 16:00, agosto 14, 2012). Al fondo la torre de la Iglesia de San Francisco
Entre las muchas cualidades de esta producción (gran Dirección, estupenda interpretación de San Shepard y el elenco , así como la extraordinaria Fotografía, música apropiada, etc , se destaca el desplazamiento del equipo hasta sitios verdaderos (POTOSI, UYUNI y otros), lo que no ocurre siempre en algunas producciones en las que se emplean sitios similares en otros paises,  diferentes,  al lugar de la historia.
La escena del Banco se desarrolló en el edificio de la izquierda (Club Social Internacional).

En la esquina opuesta, diagonalmente de esta plaza (no la edificación amarilla) se encuentra la CASA NACIONAL DE MONEDA.
Esta Plaza tiene una elevación cerca de los 4.000 metros sobre el nivel del mar
( Mateo Gil ; Sam Shepard y el equipo de producción, estuvieron allí).

1.   Aquí murío Sundance Kid (hecho real) y Buth Cassidy se habría separado (SAN VICENTE,cerca de TUPIZA)
2.   Butch con el nombre de James Blackthorn se habría refugiado en la Zona de Yungas (trópico de Bolivia, una zona muy hermosa con VEGETACIÓN Y FAUNA TROPICAL.
3.   Luego, llegaría a POTOSI, ciudad; para recoger su dinero depositado en un Banco (recuérdese que POTOSI, ha sido una de las ciudades más ricas de América.
4.   Habría pasado por PULACAYO, muy cerca de UYUNI (ambas del Departamento de POTOSI - acaba de inaugurarse la carretera asfaltada POTOSI - UYUNI - (vía que pasa por Pulacayo), donde estaban escondidos los dineros o valores robados por el técnico (Personificado por Eduardo Noriega)
(es mejor llegar a UYUNI vía carretera asfaltada que por avión, ya que se conocen valles interandinos, altiplano y montañas, viaje dura 3 a 4 horas).
5.- Tendría que cruzar el gran Salar de Uyuni (el que los astronautas de la NASA observaron sorprendidos por la extensión y luminosidad, primera reserva de LITIO del mundo - hoteles de sal ).
y finalmente en el epílogo del "film" se vería la descomunal e impresionante Cordillera de los Andes (Frontera POTOSI (BOLIVIA) con LA REPUBLICA DE CHILE.
